Gabe took two of the men and put them in a separate room. Leaving Lucas with the head guy. Or at least the guy who seemed to be the most vocal. He stared across the table at those they had apprehended. They were Chinese, but Gabe knew they spoke perfect English.

“So, gentlemen, this is how it’s going to work. You’re going to tell me what Chen’s up to or you’re going to have a very long night. You came after the woman I love, and you’re going to pay for that, so help me God.”

“We don’t know anything about Chen’s plans. Only that he wanted the two Madden girls dead. That’s what he told us to do.”

The smaller of the two spoke up. “We just do what we’re told. Chen doesn’t confide in anyone. It’s not his style. Only he knows everything.”

Gabe straightened, unsure he believed what the men said. “So, he has no Lieutenant or anybody else in command?”

The first guy shrugged like he didn’t have a care in the world. “There is Zhang, but he’s more in charge of the prisoners. He takes over when there’s an auction.”

Gabe’s stomach rolled. He’d seen plenty of those and they were horrific. It was tough to watch as young girls, women, and even young boys were auctioned off like cattle. And the people they went to were scarier than Chen.

“The rumor mill says there’s a new online auction coming up. Do you know anything about it?”

The smaller guy shook his head. “No, we don’t bother with that. Chen has a special security force for that.”

Gabe leaned back, hooking his elbow over the back of the chair. “Tell me,” he says. “What do you do besides run around trying to murder two women?”

The men shared an uncomfortable glance. Then the first guy spoke. “Usually we kidnap people.”

Gabe wanted to put a bullet between their eyes, yet he couldn’t legally do that. Still, in his opinion, they deserved to die. Perhaps he’ll be satisfied when they stand trial and spend the rest of their lives in jail, behind bars where they belonged.

“You two sit tight. There are two FBI agents outside. They’ll be escorting you to Dallas when your other friend in there with the Police Chief is ready to go.”

Since the men were handcuffed to the metal table, Gabe pushed back his chair and came to his feet. He wanted to check on Hailey. He knew she was angry at him and he couldn’t blame her. He should’ve woken her up and told her immediately what they were going to do, so she would’ve been prepared.

Unfortunately, he had hesitated because they didn’t expect anything to happen tonight. Chen had been quick and wasted no time trying to get to Hailey. Thank God Riley was safe with Connor.

He walked out and found Austin and Lincoln sitting with Hailey. She looked up at him and smiled weakly. Possibly a good sign? He shook his head, not willing to bet on it.

He glanced at Austin. “They’re all yours.
